The tourist program of Phu Quy is connected with the tourist program of the Truong Sa sea. For Vietnamese and foreign tourists, tours to Phu Quy are part of all tours to Binh Thuan province.
HonTre and Hon Tam Islands
Hon Tre is the largest island in Nha Trang Bay. Area: over 3000 hectares. It is located nearly 5 kilometers east of Nha Trang City and 3.5 kilometers from Cau Da port. Hon Tre has focused natural and social advantages of Khanh Hoa province in general and Nha Trang city in particular. Its location is relatively isolated. It has beautiful natural beaches and a mild climate. The vegetation is virgin. There are few storms and the island is very favorable for the development of ecological tourism and relaxation by the sea.
Hon Tre consists of a great deal of overlapping rock layers. Its highest peak is 395 meters. The people on the island plant mango, custard apple and jackfruit trees on the very few land plots stranded amid stone slots, holes and caves. Near the mountain peak is a virgin forest; but there are no ancient trees in it. Shrubs and vines are many. There are lots of monkeys but iguanas and pythons are few. The Hon Tre people have been using fresh water taken from small streams.
Except the three-kilometer central coastline section in the eastern margin, the rest eight kilometers of Hon Tre coastline is very primitive. Washed by waves for centuries, stone blocks at the islands foothills are very smooth. The religious buildings of Hon Tre are Ba Chua Xu shrine, Ong Nam Hai Temple, Ba Thuong Shrine and Phuoc Hai Vihara. Many objects related to the sea are preserved in them. In Ong Nam Hai Temple is kept a whale skeleton of 9.4 meters in length, 3.8 meters in width and 5 tons in weight. Besides the traditional New Year Holiday, many people on the island also perform four other annual festivals. The festival of Ba Chua Xu (Native Land Goddess) is held on the 15th day of the 2nd lunar calendar. The festival of Ong Nam Hai (Whale God) is performed on the 26th day of the 4th lunar month. The festival on the 15th day of the 7lh lunar month is performed in Phuoc Hai Vihara. The last festival is the festival in honor of the Thuong Dong Goddess on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month.
At the margin of the island there are three other sites very attractive for the people of the island. They are the site of Ha Ba Tail, Chen Beach and Dua Cave. Chen Beach has a virgin romantic landscape. Many small stones in the shape of cups run in a line for two kilometers on this beach. On Hon Tre it is the most ideal beach because it is one of the few sites where sand is available. As planned, the island now includes two functional zones:
– The Zone of Vung Me – Bai Tru – Dam Gia – Bai Ran. This zone is composed of the Tourist Area of “Con Se Tre” (Bamboo Sparrow), Vinpearl Resort & Spa, Ecotourism Area, Vinpearl Water Kingdom, Vinpearl Cultural Park, Hon Tre Cultural Park and Vinpearl Golf Course. The main transport spots of this zone are two tourist ports in Vung Me and in the Vinpearl Cable Line.
Dam Bay Zone (Bay Swamp Zone). This zone includes the Tourist Sea Realm (already established) and Dam Bay Eco-tourist Village (to be established). With relaxation areas, trade and culture centers, the Dam Bay Eco-tourist Village will be a perfect eco-tourist village. Especially, there will be the “population eco-tourist areas” developed from the current ordinary population areas in Dam Bay and Bich Dam localities. The comfort standards of Dam Bay Eco- tourist Village are inferior to that of the Complex of High Class Tourist Projects in the Zone of Vung Me – Bai Tru – Dam Gia – Bai Ran. However, Dam Bay Eco-tourist Village has a specific characteristic–the active involvement of households in tourism organized in the form of “population eco-tourist areas”.
The proposed planning will restrain spontaneous development of the population zones. It will preserve the natural landscape and make the environment healthy. Living standards of the people will be improved along with the enhancement of incomes received from ecology and tourist activities. The planning also contributes to improve the consciousness of protecting the living environment by involving, people in tourist activities in an organized way. It will create a specific tourist model friendly with the environment, nature and society.
Hon Tam Island (Thuy Kim Son Island) is over 110 hectares in area, seven kilometers southeast of Nha Trang city. Ancient fishermen named it Hon Tam (Silkworm Island) because it resembled a dark blue silkworm looking to the east. Standing in Hon Tam, people may see the whole of Nha Trang city to the north and the Cam Ranh Peninsula to the south.
Ten years ago Hon Tam was still a deserted island, but now it is an attractive zone of ecological sea tourism. Investments were put to establish a tourist area of over 10 hectares of land and 57.5 hectares of sea. This tourist area connects the A and B zones. There are football and volleyball sand grounds on Hon Tam. Apart from excursions, sea bathing, relaxation and health spas, tourists may enjoy attractive entertainment such as mountain climbing, adventure in forests, boat rowing, fishing and hunting sea animals underwater. For courageous tourists, they may participate in thrilling sports like jet-ski, parasailing, surfing, etc, or participate in tours during which they may dive to the seabed. To the southeast of Hon Tam is the virgin Thien Nga Beach composed of sand and rocks where bicycle roads and mountain climbing tracks are built. Animals are raised for tourists to hunt.
